This is a pattern for a quick pair of fingerless mitts knit sideways that utilizes garter stitch and deep cuff ribs. They look particularly nice in self striping yarns.

Sizes: S(M,L) male & female

Needles:
mens: size 5US/3.75mm
womens: size 4US/3.5mm

Materials:
mens: 100(115, 130) yards of DK weight wool or wool blend yarn
womens: 100 (115, 130) yards of sport weight wool or wool blend yarn

1 stitch marker
1 tapestry needle

Gauge:
mens: 22sts/4in
womens: 24sts/4in

Pattern:
CO 32(36, 40) sts.
Row 1: sl 1, k 21(23, 25), pm, k 11(13,15).
Row 2: sl 1, p 10(12, 14), k to end.
Row 3: sl 1, k to end.
Row 4: sl 1, k to end.
Row 5: sl 1, k to m, sl m, p to end.
Row 6: sl 1, k to end.

Repeat rows 1-6 a total of 8(9,10) times.

With a spare needle, pick up 32(36,40) sts along the cast on edge. Graft together the first 9(10, 11) sts, bind off the next 9(10, 11) sts with a knitted bind off, graft together the last 14(16, 18) sts.

Weave in the ends.
