Summer Purse

Note: This is just the pattern for the knitted portion of the purse; I’ll leave the lining to you. I recommend a lining with a zipper if you forgo the button closure. The purse will box out when weight is added.
Abbreviations:
st(s): stitch(es)
ssk: slip 2 stitches as if to knit, then knit those 2 stitches together
Finished Measurements:
Width: 7â€
Height: 6.5†at center
Depth: 3.5â€
Materials:
â— Crystal Palace Trio [50/50 nylon/polyester 55 yards/ 50g skein]; color: 9204; 2 skeins
â—1 set US #11/8 mm 16†circular needles
â—1 large stitch holder
â—Yarn needle
Optional [for closure]:
â—1 Big button of your choice
Gauge:
11 sts/15 rows = 4†in stockinet stitch.
Bag:
CO 10 sts. Work in garter st for 37 rows. Place Maker at end of this row, it will be your starting st for all rows.
Pick up and knit all sts around as follows: 18 sts on the first side, 10 sts on the cast on end, and 18 on the second side. You should have 56 sts.
Work even in Stockinet st for 6.5â€.
Knit 16 sts, bind off 6 sts. Place 22 sts on stitch holder. Bind off 6 sts, bringing the last BO st over the 6th st on the right side of your needle. These 22 sts on your needle are your active sts.
Straps:
Knit flat; knit the right side rows and purl the wrong side rows.
K2tog at the begging and ssk at the end of each row 8 times until you have 6 sts on your needle.
Row 1: knit
Row 2: purl
Repeat rows 1 and 2 12 times ending on purl.
Place sts on stitch holder
Pick up sts from other side of bag and repeat the above for the other side of the strap.
Do a 3-needle BO of all strap sts, preferably on the wrong side.
Optional Closure:
Make a 5 st I-Cord about 3†long; weave into the center of one side (where you did the first6 BO) Sew a good sized button onto the other side one inch down, center.
Weave in all ends.
