Quick knit Ribbed Hat & Reversible Rib Scarf

One Size fits most adults.
Materials for both:

* 2 skeins of Plymouth Baby Alpaca Grande in 2050 (red); or 220 yds of any bulky weight yarn.
* 1 set of size US 10.5 (6.5mm) Double Point Needles. You can use straights for the scarf, but I liked using the DPNs for it.
* An extra DPN or a cable needle
* 1 tapestry needle

These are both great little knits for the holidays. The scarf is an easy intro to cables. The extra half rib on each side keep the cable flat. The hat is nice and snug for those cold winter days.

Pattern Notes for both patterns:
I knit the hat first, and started the scarf with the leftover yarn from the first skein. This ensured that I had enough yarn for the hat.

* k = knit
* p = purl
* k2tog = knit 2 stitches together
* sts = stitches
* c16f = cable 8 stitches in front. Move the first 8 stitches onto a spare DPN and hold in the front. Work the next 8 stitches in pattern, and then work the 8 stitches from the spare DPN.

Ribbed hat

CO 60 sts and join without twisting the cast on edge. Place marker.
Work an inch and a half of k2, p2 rib all the way around.
Starting after the marker k3, p1; all the way around for 5 inches, or until it hits the crown of you head when you try it on.

Continuing in the k3, p1 rib you will begin decreases as follows:

* work in pattern for 10 sts, then k2tog: all the way around.
* knit
* work in pattern for 9 sts, k2tog
* knit
* work in pattern for 8 sts, k2tog
* knit

Continue in this fashion until there are 15 sts left; cut off the yarn leaving yourself with a 10 inch tail. Thread your needle with the tail and run it through the active sts on your knitting needle. Pull tight and secure on the wrong side. Weave in all ends.

Reversible Ribbed Scarf

CO 20 sts (I used the cable cast on)
Rows 1-9: *p2,k2: repeat * to end.
Row 10: p2; c16f; *k2, p2 twice; from cable needle *k2, p2 twice; k2.
Rows 11-19: *p2, k2: repeat * to end.
Repeat rows 1-19 till yarn almost runs out.

Bind Off all sts loosely, and weave in ends.
