Ebb & Flow Scarf

Description: I was trying to use up my yarn stash one day when I came upon a skein of hand painted mohair lace. It was very beautiful, but very stripy when knit, so most lace patterns would be drowned out. I finally decided that I liked it in the classic Feather and Fan stitch, but I wanted something more. So after playing around with where to put the yarn overs I came up with this simple and quick scarf. This pattern is great for a beginner who wants to move onto something a little more challenging, but that produces quick results. Ebb & Flow is also good for anyone who likes a classic with a twist.

Charted Lace Pattern:

Chart Notes
All odd rows follow the chart from right to left; all even rows follow it from left to right. This chart is written showing the right side, so all wrong side rows are shown backwards so knit all WS rows as follows:
Rows 2, 6, 10, 14, 18, and 22 purl all sts.
Rows 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24 knit all sts.
Repeat the above pattern until you are happy with the length or you almost run out of yarn. Bind off all stitches loosely.
Finishing:
Weave in all loose ends. At this point you can either wear it as is or block it, depending on the look you want. Blocking will take out the little hills that have been created. To block soak in cool water until it is saturated; then gently wrap it in a towel and press firmly, not pulling until most of the water has been absorbed by the towel; lay scarf on a flat surface and gently tug the fabric into place and pin on a towel to dry. When it’s completely dry remove it from the towel making sure you have all the pins out.
